West Ham coach Porter recently accepted an interview with the media. He believes that the club's previous transfer strategy is problematic.

West Ham strengthened his roster this summer by introducing Malik Diouf from Slavia Prague and signing goalkeeper Hermanson from Leicester City, while Kyle Walker Peters and Callum Wilson joined as free agents.

But after Cresville, Cao Farr, Danny Ins, Mikel Antonio left the team, and Kudus switched to his city rival Tottenham for £55 million, the team still lacked depth.

After losing 0-3 to Sunderland in the opening game, Porter planned to speed up his pursuit of the transfer target, but admitted that the club was unable to sign ups due to mistakes in the past transfer window, which made him constrained.

He said at a pre-match press conference at home against Chelsea on Thursday: "We need a few silver bullets. We analyzed the positions we need to strengthen and tried to make the right decisions within the club's financial capabilities."

"Through history, West Ham has indeed spent money. But believe me, signing players is simple, and everyone here can do it. This does not mean that they are the right candidates, nor does it mean that the team will get better, nor does it mean that you will be trapped in six months by a player who is overpaid, older and unable to take action."

"All These factors must be considered. I can sit here and say, ‘It would be great if there was a budget of £200 million’, but the reality is not. So I must use existing resources responsibly, work with the club to ensure that the goals are consistent, and ensure a stronger lineup when closing the windows than when opening the windows.’

Last summer, West Ham spent a total of £132.5 million to introduce Soler (loaned from Paris Saint-Germain), Todibo, Somerville, Max Kilman, Phil Kruger, Wan Bissaka, Louis Guillerme, Wes Fordingham and Guido Rodriguez.

This was originally regarded as an unprecedented transfer window, but Kilman failed to prove the value of his £40 million worth, Todibo, Phil Kruger and Somerville were suffering from injuries, and Guillerme and Rodriguez made only sporadic appearances in their debut season. Among the nine new players, only Wan Bisaka continued to output and perform stably. The 27-year-old defender replaced the meritorious right-back Cao Farr and was elected the best player in the team. He made significant progress on the offensive end, scoring 2 goals and sending 4 assists in 36 Premier League games.
