GPU factory NVIDIA (NVIDIA) announced the launch of the NVIDIA Spectrum-XGS ethernet, a cross-domain expansion technology that integrates a decentralized data center into a unified, Gigabit-level scale artificial intelligence (AI) super factory. In particular, with the sharp increase in AI demand, the power and capacity of a separate data center in a single facility have reached an extreme limit. In order to expand the scale, the scale of the data center must exceed a single building, and the existing Ethernet infrastructure is limited to high delay, jitter and unstable bottles.
NVIDIA said that Spectrum-XGS Ether Network is a breakthrough development of the NVIDIA Spectrum-X Ether Network platform, breaking existing restrictions through the introduction of cross-domain expansion infrastructure. Spectrum-XGS Aether Network will serve as the third pillar of AI computing beyond vertical scale-up and horizontal scale-out. It is designed to expand the ultimate performance and scale of Spectrum-X Aether Network. It can connect multiple distributed data centers to form a super-large AI super factory with Gigabit intelligence capabilities.
NVIDIA founder and executive director Huang Renjun said that the AI industry revolution has arrived, and super-large AI factories are an indispensable basic facility. Through NVIDIA Spectrum-XGS Ethernet, we have added cross-domain expansion technology to the original vertical expansion and horizontal expansion capabilities, so that data centers across cities, countries and continents can be connected to large, gigabit-scale AI super factory.
Spectrum-XGS Ethernet has been fully integrated into the Spectrum-X platform. Its feature is the distance between visual data center facilities and dynamically adjusting the network's algorithm. In addition, with advanced technologies such as automatic adjustment distance congestion control, precise delay management and end-to-end remote detection, the Spectrum-XGS ethernet can almost double the performance of the NVIDIA Collective Communications Library, accelerating communication between multiple GPUs and multiple nodes, providing predictable performance for AI sets distributed across regions. Therefore, multiple data centers can operate as a single AI super factory and fully optimize long-distance connections.
In order to not want to be completely restricted by the NVIDIA architecture, users have recently gradually surfaced, striving to replace the NVIDIA architecture's business machines. Among them, the competition rival Broadcom is a powerful competition rival. In terms of its Jericho 4 ethernet switch router, it recently launched because today's super-large AI cluster requires about 200 MW of data centers to accommodate. However, many areas are difficult to provide such a large single data center. The Jericho 4 should be born by using an ethernet exchange router that can connect multiple dispersed data centers, up to 100 kilometers, making it look like a large data center.
Broadcom said at that time that the Internet is the key to realizing distributed computing. Broadcom has sent important information to GPU manufacturers, that is, network and GPU should not be sold in a fixed manner. Broadcom believes that if GPU manufacturers are confident in their products, they should allow the best networks in the market to compete freely, allowing the best networks to emerge, and at the same time allowing the best GPUs to emerge. This open competition model can ensure that users have more choices and promote technological innovation in the entire industry through market forces, rather than limiting competition by closing the environment.
Currently, NVIDIA's Spectrum-X Ethernet platform is a multi-tenant, ultra-large AI factory, including the world's largest AI supercomputer to provide higher bandwidth density than existing Ethernet technology. The platform is composed of NVIDIA Spectrum-X exchanger and NVIDIA ConnectX-8 SuperNIC, which can provide unsparing capabilities, ultra-low latency and breakthrough performance for enterprises that build future AI. Therefore, the target of the target is very similar to that of Broadcom's Jericho 4. Therefore, facing the adversary of competitors, whether NVIDIA's data center-based network system can maintain its position as king has become one of the focus of the next market.
