GlobalFoundries announced on Tuesday (8th) that it has signed a final agreement with MIPS to officially acquire the company focusing on RISC-V solutions and IP development. This transaction will enable Gros to launch its own processor and other products based on the RISC-V instruction set architecture (ISA), and thus form a competitive relationship with some crystal foundry customers. However, both parties emphasize that MIPS will still operate as an independent business unit after the merger.
This purchase significantly expanded Grofangde's IP combination, allowing it to integrate MIPS technology, covering general-purpose CPU IP, AI recommendation accelerated IP and multiple sensor solutions.
Through this integration, MIPS can directly use Grofontein differential process points and a secure global manufacturing base in the future. This will not only help the tight integration between processor IP and process technology and speed up product launch, but may also give MIPS the opportunity to compete for orders such as the US Department of Defense that have high requirements for manufacturing locations.
The outside world believes that this transaction also symbolizes a transformation of Grofangde's business positioning, transforming from a traditional crystalline foundry to a supplier of integrated computing solution across general and AI applications.
Grolfonde President and Executive Director Niels Anderskouv said, "Through this merger, we will expand our capabilities and combine our differential process technology with world-class manufacturing advantages to create a more flexible integrated solution for customers. This will be an important step in promoting efficiency and efficiency limitations in areas such as automobiles, industrials and data center basic facilities."
After the transaction is completed, MIPS will operate as an independent business unit under Grofonte, maintaining existing cooperative relations with other crystalline foundry manufacturers and customers, and continue to support the wide range of technical needs of diversified industries.
